"Aniruddha declares: 'The term “self” refers to consciousness (vijñāna), while “I” denotes the physical body. The arising of consciousness within the body leads to the emergence of [the] notions of “self” and “I,” which collectively constitute the fetter of arrogance and conceit.'"
